Tartaric acid -

Purpose

Tartaric acidL+ acts as a setting retarder in the gypsum mixture of the semi-hydrate, slowing the rate of hydration of the gypsum binder. Tartaric acid L+ is recommended in the production of gypsum putty and plaster compositions for manual and machine application. Tartaric acid L+ increases the setting time of the gypsum binder in proportion to the dosage. The slowing of gypsum setting depends on such internal characteristics as the content of calcium sulfate dihydrate
(CaSO4 ·2H2 O), CaSO4 · 0.5H2 O hemihydrate and CaSO4 anhydrite, presence of inorganic impurities, other salts and lime, pH value and other characteristics (for example, temperature).

Recommendations to application

Tartaric acid L+ extends the setting time of the gypsum binding material proportionally to dose. Slowing down of gypsum setting time depends on such intrinsic characteristics of it as content of calcium sulfate dehydrate CaSO4•2H6O, hemihydrate CaSO4•0.5H2O and anhydrite CaSO4, presence of non-organic impurities, other salts and lime carbonate, pH values and other characteristics (temperature, for instance). The dosage is selected based on specific formula of dry construction mix, depending on the required setting rate. Tentative dosage should be from 0.03 to 0.2% of the mass of gypsum binding material.
